Powering Chicago Launches Online Tool to Find Qualified Electrical Contractors Throughout City of Chicago and Suburban Cook County News provided by Share this article Share this article CHICAGO, March 9, 2021 /PRNewswire/  Powering Chicago, the labor-management partnership between the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 134 and the Electrical Contractors Association of City of Chicago (ECA), announced today the launch of a new online database designed to connect Chicagoans with qualified electrical contractors for any need. The Find a Contractor tool, which includes more than 600 signatory electrical contractors in the City of Chicago and suburban Cook County, enables users to quickly identify an electrical contractor near them that specializes in the type of work they need completed.

New engineering services alliance launched

Actuate UK, a new umbrella organisation of trade bodies in the engineering services sector has been formed today. The new alliance will fill the breach left by the closure of the SEC Group at the start of this year, though Actuate UK aims to tackle a much broader range of issues than the payment malpractices for which the SEC Group was renowned. In particular, the new group aims to drive progress on skills, sustainability and building safety, as well as recovery from the virus crisis. At its launch, Actuate UK comprises eight engineering trade bodies: Building Engineering and Services Association (BESA)

New trade alliance to succeed disbanded SEC Group

A group of industry trade bodies will launch a successor to the Specialist Engineering Contractors’ (SEC) Group, which has ceased operations. First established in 1993, the SEC Group gained wide recognition for campaigning against payment malpractice in the industry, championing prompt payment initiatives, project bank accounts and working to reform retentions. The group’s chief executive, Rudi Klein, and chairman, Trevor Hursthouse, stood down at the end of 2020. The new alliance, to be named at its launch event next week, will reassemble most of the trade bodies that comprised the SEC Group. Announced members are: Building Engineering and Services Association (BESA)
