Ex-Escom CEO, director in court over multimillion fraud allegations

Chiwaya: Several issues to sort out The Blantyre resident magistrates court wants to determine whether Chiwaya and Namandwa have a case to answer or not. The State has so far paraded one witness to prove their case before Senior Resident Magistrate Elijah Blackboard Dazilikwiza Sachalo Daniels. State lawyer Dzikondianthu Malunda has said the State has 11 other witnesses to parade. Chiwaya and Namandwa are answering charges of fraud and abuse of office between 2018 and 2020.

Police recover K352m MTL, Escom cables

Police in Lilongwe have recovered seven tonnes of assorted cables worth K352 million belonging to Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) and Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom). In a statement issued yesterday, Lilongwe Police Station deputy spokesperson Foster Benjamin said two people have since been arrested in connection with the matter. The recovered cables heaped at Lilongwe Police Station He said police were tipped off on Tuesday that one of the suspects was loading the cables into a van at her house in Likuni Township in Lilongwe City.
