The much discussed and debated Electronic Voting Machine in India has survived intense scrutiny over its use largely because of one strong reason the fact that this standalone single-chip device is not connected to any network. This is besides several technological and administrative safeguards to ensure that the machine is not tampered with. With the addition of the Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) to the EVM, “audit-ability” was added to the process even as the machine has suffered glitches, which the Election Commission of India (ECI) has managed to tackle reasonably well. The ECI should definitely seek solutions to make the EVM more robust even as it must reject calls for a return to paper balloting which experienced malpractices such as ballot stuffing and booth capturing. CHATTOGRAM, Jan 20, 2021 (BSS) – The Election Commission has engaged 20 judicial magistrates to ensure peaceful voting during the upcoming Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) polls.
The magistrates will begin their election duties before two days of the election and continue after two more days of the election, said anotification signed by Afroza Shiuli, deputy secretary (Law) of Election Commission.
A total of 236 candidates including seven mayoral candidates are contesting in the CCC elections to be held on January 27.
Voting will be held by Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) at 735 polling stations.
A total of 19 lakh 38 thousand 706 city dwellers voters will exercise their franchise in the election.
Quader’s brother Mirza Quader wins Basurhat mayoral post
Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader’s younger brother Mirza Abdul Quader has won mayoral post in Noakhali’s Basurhat municipality election with a huge margin of votes.
Mirza Quader became much talked about person and talk of the country criticising his won political leaders about their irregularities. He also criticised local and national leaders who became members of parliament through a rigged and corrupt election.
The election was held on Saturday through Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) introduced in the district for the first time.
