Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government will provide free data card of 2 GB per day capacity to over 9.69 lakh college students to enable them attend online classes till April this year, Chief Minister K Palaniswami said on Sunday.
The move was being effected since the colleges have remained closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and were conducting online classes, he said in a statement.

Chennai: In poll-bound Tamil Nadu, free internet data cards will be distributed to over 9.69 lakh students of Government colleges to facilitate attending online classes till April. Following the outbreak of the global novel coronavirus pandemic, classes are being held online for students.
On Sunday, Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami announced that 2GB internet data would be given free daily till April for students studying in Government and Government-aided arts, science, polytechnic and engineering colleges. Besides, the facility would be extended to students who are enrolled on scholarship in self-financing colleges.

The 33rd district of Tamil Nadu will have its collectorate on the Government Hospital campus near the new bus-stand on Madurai Road as Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami laid the foundation stone for the campus on Friday from Chennai through video-conferencing. The six-storey building with a plinth area of 28,995 square meters will be constructed at a cost of ₹119 crore on 11.11 acres of land on the government hospital within 18 months.
