MIAMI COUNTY (WISH) Indiana State Police say a Peru man has died after a driving off a Miami County road on Monday night.
Police say 20-year-old Patrick “Blake” Sadowsky was headed southbound on County Road 190 West near Mexico Road in a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado when he missed a slight curve and struck multiple trees and a telephone pole.
Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash around 9:30 p.m.
Firefighters removed Sadowsky from the vehicle and he was taken to Dukes Memorial Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
While police are still investigating the crash, they believe Sadowsky was not wearing a seat belt at the time.
The spread of COVID-19 cases in the county has created the need for the Osawatomie Volunteer Fire Department to assist a neighboring department with its calls.
âEffective last night, we added the Osawatomie Fire Department to all responses within the Fontana Fire Department area due to COVID concerns with their staff,â Mark Whelan told county commissioners during a county fire board meeting Wednesday, Dec. 9.
The Board of County Commissioners also serves as the fire board.
âThis way we can ensure we do get a timely response to any fire or EMS calls in Fontanaâs area,â said Whelan, emergency management coordinator at the Miami County Sheriffâs Office. âWeâre hoping that will clear in the next couple of weeks. Once Fontana is back up to their normal staffing, weâll switch it back to Fontana taking care of their own calls unless they call for help.â
