Miami, July 4 : The remainder of the condominium in Surfside, Florida, that partially collapsed last week will be demolished on Sunday, a local fire official said, adding that the death toll from the disaster has increased to 24.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Raide Jadallah told affected families during a news conference on Saturday that the remaining part of the Champlain Towers South would be brought down as soon as possible. First thing tomorrow , reports Xinhua news agency.
He added that the plan is contingent upon further discussions, as a follow-up meeting will be held in the afternoon to finalise details of the demolition.

Governor DeSantis Provides Update on State Response Efforts for Surfside Building Collapse
Today, Governor Ron DeSantis announced that, after discussion with local officials in Surfside and structural engineers, the remainder of Champlain Building South will be demolished this weekend prior to potential impacts from Tropical Storm Elsa to ensure the safety of residents and first responders. Demolition activities will be scheduled within 36 hours. First responders will resume search and rescue efforts as quickly as possible after the demolition. The state will also cover all costs associated with the demolition of the building.
This morning, Governor Ron DeSantis was joined by Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Florida Division of Emergency Management (FDEM) Director Kevin Guthrie and Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett for a press briefing to provide updates on the Surfside Building Collapse response.

The search and rescue operations in the Florida condo collapse were once again suspended, ahead of the demolition plans and the nearing of tropical storm Elsa in the state. The suspension was confirmed by Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava during an evening press conference on Saturday, according to a report from New York Post.
Florida Condo Collapse: Authorities Prepare for the Demolition
Despite the announcement of the suspension, Levine Cava noted that the schedule for the demolition of the remaining parts of the Florida building that collapsed was not yet scheduled. However, Reuters mentioned officials saying that the demolition of the 12-story building in Florida could happen as soon as Sunday.
The search-and-rescue mission was suspended in the afternoon as demolition crews began the precarious business of boring holes into the concrete of the still-standing portion of the Champlain Towers South tower in Surfside, Miami-Dade Assistant Fire Chief Raide Jadallah told family members.
Jadallah said the suspension was a necessary safety measure because the drilling of holes to hold the explosives for the demolition could have caused the unstable structure to fail. If that were to happen, he said, It s just going to collapse without warning.
But in a video stream of Jadallah s briefing to relatives of the missing, one of them was heard calling it devastating that the search had to stop.
