Limerick family raises €13,000 for charity with Christmas lights display Reporter: );   ); AN incredible €13,000 has been raised for two Limerick charities by the Hayes family in Shanagolden through their spectacular Christmas lights display. Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, almost 300,000 lights brightened up the night sky over the Hayes’ home over the festive period attracting (socially distanced) visitors. The tradition began in 1997 and has grown over the years.  In a post on social media, the family has announced that €13,000 was raised with all funds being donated to Milford Hospice and The Children s Ark at University Hospital Limerick. The support has been amazing and without your help this event wouldn t have been successful during these difficult times, said Cormac Hayes who thanked everyone who donated and the local businesses who supported the initiative.

This significant milestone comes as the retailer prepares to donate €5,000 to seven health-related community groups across Limerick under the first round of the 2021 Fund. The Limerick organisations to benefit are Cliona s Foundation, Milford Hospice, Parkinsons Midwest, Headway, Limerick Suicide Watch, Cari and The Children’s Arc First launched in 2014, the Community Fund aims to provide financial support to groups in the local communities across the country. Anyone can nominate a community group or good cause via the Tesco website - every eight weeks three causes are chosen in every Tesco store across Ireland, sharing up to €1,000 equally.

Reporter: );   ); Run by Innovate Limerick through Film in Limerick, Engine Shorts is a partnership between the Local Authorities in Tipperary, Limerick and Clare, and the Limerick and Clare Education and Training Board. The new scheme aims to inspire and support up-and-coming filmmakers to create world-class short films that resonate with a wide international audience. It will also offer the opportunity for emerging local crew to gain real-world experience on funded productions and to receive industry guidance. Shortlisted teams can avail of training to develop their project ideas and up to six teams will be awarded production funding of €12,500 each to produce a short film.
