ECG releases 8-days dumsor timetable for Accra

705 The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has released the power outages timetable for Greater Accra for the month of May 2021, due to ongoing construction works in the power sector especially at the Pokuase Bulk Supply Point. According to the ECG, as part of projects to improve power supply reliability and system voltages, the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) in collaboration with the ECG are undertaking interruptions in the power supply to facilitate the work of contractors at various stages and times. This, according to the ECG requires a complete shutdown of the 330kv line thereby affecting power supply reliability to the Mallam Bulk Supply Point (BSP).

Pokuase Bulk Power Supply point to be ready in July 2021

According to the site engineers, all other ancillary facilities to support its full function have also been completed. The Technical Controller of the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), Mr William Amuna, gave the assurance when he led a team working on the project, to conduct the Minister of Energy, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh around the project Tuesday (April 20, 2021). He said but for the outbreak of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in Ghana which forced the suspension of work for a while and supply of materials from China, the project would have been completed earlier.

He said this at a public forum in Accra on Thursday, April 8, 2021. “We need money to do it [improve]. If we get the increase we will love it [but] that will be up to the PURC because, no matter what we propose, they will ultimately decide,” he said. He added “In terms of distribution, we need support, because we have to do upgrades to make sure the system is sustainable. We don’t wait till something is broken before we fix it. We need additional funds to upgrade our systems at all times.”
