PrideFest cancels its 4-day event slated for June due to COVID-19

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Pride, Inc., the parent organization of PrideFest, Wisconsin’s largest LGBTQ+ event, announced on Tuesday, Jan. 26 that it is officially canceling the four-day event slated for June.
PrideFest was set to take place at Maier Festival Park from Thursday, June 3-Sunday, June 6, 2021. This is the second year in a row the festival has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wes Shaver, Milwaukee Pride, Inc. President issued this statement in a news release: After much consideration, we cannot move forward with planning a June 2021 festival without knowing how and when a vaccine will be distributed throughout our community equally. PrideFest organizers have canceled the annual four-day festival that was scheduled for June at the Summerfest grounds.
It’s the second year in a row that Milwaukee Pride, Inc., the festival’s parent organization, has canceled the event due to COVID-19 concerns.
This year’s festival was slated to take place from June 3-6.
“After much consideration, we cannot move forward with planning a June 2021 festival without knowing how and when a vaccine will be distributed throughout our community equally” said Wes Shaver, Milwaukee Pride, Inc. president. “It is still unclear as to how (or if) public gatherings will happen in 2021 and we cannot risk the health and wellbeing of our community by putting the festival ahead of the people it serves. Now, more than ever, we need to amplify the work of our community partners and increase accessibility and awareness of the many services, resources, and programs available to support LGBTQ+ people.”

Summerfest had to cancel its entire lineup last year due to coronavirus.
Milwaukee World Festival, Inc., producer of Summerfest, said they are disappointed by the announcement. While we are disappointed Halsey s tour will not play the American Family Insurance Amphitheater this summer, Milwaukee World Festival, Inc. continues to build a diverse, blockbuster Summerfest lineup for our fans, they said in a statement. Our team is working closely with civic officials and health care professionals to safely bring live music ack to the lakefront.

The coronavirus crisis isn t through canceling major Milwaukee concerts.
The pandemic wiped out most of the 2020 concert calendar, and now the first big concert that was still on the books in Brew City for 2021 Michael Bublé at Fiserv Forum Feb. 24 has been bumped to Sept. 14. Previously purchased tickets will be honored.
The crooner s 24-city U.S. tour, postponed from last spring because of the pandemic, was set to start this month. Instead, it will kick off Aug. 13 in Jacksonville, Florida.
