A new playground is coming to one of Milwaukee’s most urban neighborhoods.
The non-profit Historic Third Ward Association is seeking to raise $85,000 to fund the neighborhood’s first playground.
The playground would be located in a triangular lot at 111 N. Jefferson St. that is currently owned by an affiliate of We Energies.
To be known as Gas Light Park, the site is located at the intersection of E. Erie St. and N. Jefferson St. It is currently a grass lot.

DNR: No Destination Restaurant on Bradford Beach

Wisconsinâs Department of Natural Resources officially issued an opinion opposing a food-and-beverage operation functioning as âdestination restaurantâ in the Bradford Beach Bathhouse or anywhere on the public beach. That directive was made to ensure compliance with Wisconsinâs public trust doctrine, including its requirement for full public access, a role assigned to the DNR.
âThe Department takes this important responsibility seriously and must scrutinize any plans which may incorporate private use of lakebed areas,â said the March 3 letter from John Budzinski, the DNR Secretaryâs Director for Southeast Wisconsin. It was sent to William Lynch, chair of the Lakefront Development Advisory Commission as part of that bodyâs deliberation-and-recommendation process about an application by the Dock, LLC, to open a bar and grille on the open-air public pavilionâs

View the plansThe bar is designed so that it can be easily removed in the future should the lease with the Dock end. An Illinois-based company called The Dock has operated a food and drink stand at the pavilion for the past two summers and would run the proposed second-floor bar. The plans are being reviewed by Milwaukee County Parks, which owns the building.
