WISCONSIN â Now that U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders has won the internet, people in Wisconsin are joining the fray and posting their own Bernie Sanders inauguration memes.
The internet exploded following the inauguration when the Vermont senator showed up to the ceremony in an outfit only Bernie could pull off: a warm winter jacket and mittens apparently made out of recycled materials, sitting cross-legged in a fold-up metal chair.
Now Bernie is appearing in well-known Wisconsin locations. Light the Hoan posted one of Bernie sitting in front of the Hoan Bridge. The Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County shared another of Bernie sitting in their cat colony. And Milwaukee County Transit System asked with their own Bernie meme, Iâm once again asking for you to wear a mask while riding the bus.
The art was done by Milwaukee Public Schools students.
“Last year, the art was featured in a display, at the Marcus Center,” MCTS Community Outreach Coordinator Jacqueline Zeledon said. “This year we wanted to take it a step further.”
The bus stops feature the art of contest winners.
MCTS traditionally celebrates King’s birthday in-person at the Marcus Center, but the pandemic forced changes.
“Normally we would have a display about civil rights and transportation in the reception, but since we’re not going to be at the Marcus Center, we still wanted to remain involved,” Zeledon said.
This year, riders will see the recognition at bus stops on MLK Drive one at West Pleasant Street and the other at West Concordia Avenue.

Milwaukee County officials say they have formally received a $40.9 million federal grant that will allow construction to start this spring on the roughly $55 million bus rapid-transit project.
The nine-mile east-west BRT project is the first of its kind in the state, according to a news release. It will connect downtown Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center in Wauwatosa by a new bus service that is faster than traditional bus transit.
The U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Transit Administration announced the execution of the federal Small Starts federal grant program agreement on Monday, which will cover nearly 80% of the overall project cost.
