A south side church is being converted into a community center for Rohingya refugees in Milwaukee, believed to be home to one of the largest populations of Rohingya in the U.S. after they fled decades of systemic repression in their native Myanmar.
On Friday, the nonprofit Burmese Rohingya Community of Wisconsin bought a church building in Clarke Square. Founder Anuwar Kasim hopes it will be a place for his people to gather, practice Islam and get help with everything from English language learning to housing and food. There is a lot of needs for my community, Kasim said. This community center can assist them.

Southwest: Milwaukee-Miami nonstop flights begin June 12

MILWAUKEE - Southwest Airlines is continuing to expand service from Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport (MKE) with new nonstop flights to Miami International Airport (MIA) starting June 12 and continuing every Saturday through September 4.
Southwest also made the following air service announcements for flights from MKE to Florida:
The existing Saturday service to Sarasota/Bradenton (SRQ) is being extended from now through the end of October. The roundtrip route will also be flown on Sundays through September 5.
U.S. airlines are responding to an uptick in demand for leisure travel as business travel remains all but nonexistent.
Southwest is the market share leader at Milwaukee Mitchell, carrying half the passengers at the airport.
With Monday’s announcement, Southwest Airlines now serves seven Florida cities nonstop from Milwaukee.
Dallas-based Southwest has expanded aggressively since the COVID-19 pandemic began, launching or announcing service at 17 new airports.
From Milwaukee, Southwest has made the following air service additions to Florida, according to a statement from Milwaukee Mitchell:
