Paul McCartney has explained where the album title “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” came from. In the new Hulu documentary “McCartney 3, 2 1,” Paul reveals how he came up with the name.
It all came down to a simple miscommunication. Paul remembers having a meal on a plane, and asking one of
The Beatles’ roadies to pass the salt and pepper. Except, the roadie thought he said “Sergeant Pepper.”
They all thought it was hilarious, But the more he thought about it, he figured “Sergeant Pepper” was “kind of a cool character.”
