ELKINS Insight to the biggest sensation on TikTok is coming to Augusta. “Sea Shanties: Adding Historical Context to the Hottest New TikTok Trend (+ singing along!)” will be presented on Facebook Live and via Zoom at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Musicians John Roberts and Chris Koldewey will lead a discussion about sea shanties, their place in history and current use, including the history behind the current viral TikTok collaborative video “Soon May the Wellerman Come.”
Dating back to the 19th century, sea shanties are work songs typically sung by sailors to help keep rhythm with their work and entertain themselves during long voyages.

Mystic The Greater Mystic Chamber of Commerce has announced that its is moving its Welcome Center, which is now on Greenmanville Avenue (Route 27) across from Mystic Seaport Museum, to the second floor of 22 E. Main St. in the downtown.
The new office is slated to open in February and allow the Chamber to allocate more funds to ensure Member success, according to the chamber s announcement. HJ Smith Plumbing has generously offered the Chamber a home where they can restructure, reset and move forward with less of a financial burden.
The chamber also announced that its executive board will initiate a search for a new president to replace Peggy Roberts, who resigned last month.
