Man dead after early Sunday morning assault

A man is dead following an assault early Sunday morning and police are asking for the community’s help with the investigation. At approximately 2:14 a.m. on Sunday, Grand Junction Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of an assault that took place at a business in the 2200 Block of Colex Drive. The male victim was unconscious and not breathing when police arrived at the scene. Officers performed CPR on the victim until medical personnel arrived and transported the man to the hospital where he was ultimately declared deceased. The Mesa County Coroner s Office has not yet identified the victim.

Three killed in unrelated car crashes last week

Three people were killed in unrelated motor vehicle crashes over the course of five days last week. The first crash occurred shortly after noon on Sunday, May 2, when a vehicle struck a pedestrian near 28½ Road and North Avenue. A 62-year-old woman was sitting on the northside curb between Carl’s Jr. and O Reilly Auto parts at the exit of East Gate Shopping Center, according to police. A male, leaving the shopping center in his vehicle, reportedly did not see the woman and struck her with his car. She received medical attention at the scene, but died en route to the hospital.

Glenwood man dies in motorcycle wreck The Mesa County Coroner’s Office has completed its examination and identified the man who was killed in a motorcycle crash in Mesa County on April 24. James Benson, 69, of Glenwood Springs, who died on Saturday, was wearing his helmet at the time and toxicology is pending, according to a news release. Colorado State Patrol is overseeing the investigation. Local family displaced after home fire The Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a report of a home on fire at 12:17 a.m. Monday in the 200 block of Nancy Street. Two adults and four children were able to safely evacuate the home before crews arrived. Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from the attic of the home and were able to extinguish the fire, limiting damage to the home and personal possessions, according to a news release.
