The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) said it is upgrading the Nigerian oil and gas downstream operations to global standards with improved technology in its ongoing automation process.
The Director of DPR, Mr. Sarki Auwalu, stated this at a virtual meeting with the members of the Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) on Tuesday.
In a statement signed by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Paul Osu, the director said the department was deploying appropriate technology to enhance value for operators and investors alike in the downstream sector.
Auwalu said the DPR has concluded plans to launch the the Downstream Remote Monitoring Systems (DRMS), an inventory and regulatory tool designed to track product levels across retail outlets and depots using the short code- 7117#.

Marketers of petroleum products under the aegis of Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) have called for a joint action of stakeholders in the Nigeria economy to find ways to mitigate adverse effects of the imminent increase in the price of petrol.
The marketers’ cartel also canvassed for the replication of the current measure to cut cost of operation in the country’s oil and gas industry to the entire spectrum of the economy, especially governance.
The Chairman of MOMAN and Managing Director of 11Plc, Mr. Tunji Oyebanji, advanced the positions of the association yesterday in a statement he presented at a virtual press briefing hosted in Lagos with the title: ‘After Deregulation, What Next?’.

The Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, on Thursday launched a new digital system to monitor and track the distribution of petrol and other petroleum products across the country, saying it will check product scarcity and smuggling.
The Downstream Remote Monitoring System, DRMS, and inventory management solution for petroleum products supply and distribution is designed to provide a holistic view of the downstream value chain in real-time.
DPR Director/CEO, Engr. Auwalu Sarki explained at the official launch of DRMS that it would guarantee the availability and reliability of real time data for decision making and planning purposes.
