The Chicago White Sox chose Ellard in the eighth round with the 245th pick of the draft with the selection, Liberty has now had 71 players taken in the MLB Draft during the 48-year history of its program. The Flames have had at least one player chosen in each draft since 2000, except last year’s draft which was limited to five rounds due to COVID-19.

Wake Forest High School shortstop Kahlil Watson was picked by the Miami Marlins with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2021 Major League Baseball Draft on Sunday evening. Watson is the highest-drafted Wake County high school baseball player since Josh Hamilton was drafted first overall by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in 1999. Holly Springs pitcher Carlos Rodon was drafted third in the 2014 draft, but he was drafted out of college. Green Hope High School s Jordyn Adams was drafted 17th out of high school in the 2018 draft.
