The application for the new 17.5 metre mast at Rhyd-Ddu, and submitted by the Home Office, is the latest as part of the UK Government’s new Emergency Services Network (ESN). The application for the new 17.5 metre (57 feet) structure at Rhyd-Ddu, which has been submitted by the Home Office, is the latest as part of the UK Government’s new Emergency Services Network (ESN). The Snowdonia National Park Authority, which will consider this application, also recently approved similar Home Office proposals for a 20 metre (66 feet) mast at Rhosygwaliau, Llangywer near y Bala.

Speaking at the British Compressed Gas Association’s (BCGA’s) Virtual Conference today (23
rd April), Lord Callanan thanked the industrial gas sector for the essential role it has played over the past year throughout the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
Minister for Climate Change and Corporate Responsibility, Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, Lord Callanan recognised the significant and critical contribution the “invisible industry” has played during the pandemic.
“I know that the industry has made a significant and critical contribution in fighting Covid-19, and I thank you for that. BCGA members have provided vital services throughout the pandemic, supplying medical grade oxygen to hospitals and care homes,” he said.
Heightened alert: Combatting the ‘hybrid security threat’ to critical energy and utilities

At the very start of this year, NATO spelled out the “major and growing challenge” to critical energy security posed by a “hybrid threat” composed of cyber attacks, physical attacks, supply disruptions, drone strike sabotage, intimidation, and covert incursions by irregular armed extremists. In essence, actions that are “complex, destructive and coercive” with the potential to destabilise critical energy infrastructure and assets on which developed economies depend.
