Ahead of next week s sales of 20th- and 21st-century design in New York and Paris, award-winning actress Julianne Moore will be featuring her personal selections from the 350-plus items across three auctions. Moore herself is an avid collector with a passion for art and design, and she has chosen lots from Important Design: from Noguchi to Lalanne, which takes place in New York on May 25 and in Paris on May 26, as well as Thomas Moleworth: Designing the American West, which also takes place in New York on May 25.
Notable picks from these upcoming auctions include a recently discovered table by Japanese-American artist and landscape architect Isaumu Noguchi, a Crocodile Settee, and Two Moutons de Laine from the historic collection of French artist couple Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, and timeless furniture pieces from designer Thomas Moleworth s private Montana collection. The first auction also features a wealth of items of post-war design.

NASA has big hopes for Jupiter’s moon Europa, and the American space agency has just dotted the i’s and crossed the t’s on the spacecraft that will fly out there to see if it can actually support life. Europa Clipper faces a long journey, with Jupiter orbiting the Sun at a far more distant elliptical path than Earth, but what it could find there may make that all worthwhile.
That’s because, unlike what we’ve seen of other planets and moons in the solar system, Europa shows signs of being highly conducive to supporting life. There’s twice as much liquid water there than on Earth, for example, for the most part as a huge, salty ocean. It’s warmed by tidal heating, and expected to be stocked with minerals from the moon’s rocky build.
NASA’s Europa Clipper Builds Hardware, Moves Toward Assembly
Jupiter’s moon Europa may have the potential to harbor life. The spacecraft will use multiple flybys of the moon to investigate the habitability of this ocean world.
Europa Clipper, NASA’s upcoming flagship mission to the outer solar system, has passed a significant milestone, completing its Critical Design Review. During the review, experts examined the detailed design of the spacecraft to ensure that it is ready to complete construction. The mission is now able to complete hardware fabrication and testing, and move toward the assembly and testing of the spacecraft and its payload of sophisticated science instruments.
