Housing Minister living in cuckoo land - Deputy Doherty - Highland Radio - Latest Donegal News and Sport

The Finance Minister has been defending the Government s housing policy as pressure grows on the Government to tackle the issue of cuckoo funds buying up completed housing estates. It could take weeks for emergency tax changes or legislation to be put in place to stop the investment bodies buying blocks of homes. A Sinn Fein motion on the issue which would increase the tax liability on the funds was debated in the Dail last night. The party s Finance spokesperson and Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty told the Housing Minister that people are suffering as a result of current policies:

There s still uncertainty over whether Gaeltacht courses planned for this summer will go ahead or not. In a Parliamentary response received by Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty from Gaeltacht Minister, Catherine Martin there appears to be little clarity for Gaeltacht colleges or if compensation will be forthcoming should courses be cancelled. Deputy Doherty says another year without Gaeltacht colleges would be devastating for Gaeltacht communities. He says a comprehensive support plan is needed to protect these communities:

The HSE has confirmed that the capital budget for the project is €2.4m. The procurement of a design team will get underway this year with €100,000 of the €2.4m allocated for 2021. Donegal Deputy Pearse Doherty says pressure must be put on the HSE to ensure the development of the centre is brought to fruition as quickly as possible:
