Posted: Apr 7, 2021 6:03 PM Posted By: Hannah Follman VINCENNES, Ind. (WTHI) -  April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. A local nonprofit in Vincennes is stepping up to raise awareness and educate others. Recently the nonprofit joined a national campaign. As a result, dozens of community members are getting involved. You have to have the community help, Chief Bob Dunham of the Vincennes Police Department, said. You have to have more than us or six or eight sets of eyes on the city watching. I want people in the community to understand why it s important. Come out from behind the blinds, open the doors, open the windows, help us help everyone else by coming forward with information.

Start by Believing : Recent USU campaign part of campuswide efforts to improve response to sexual violence

A recent “Start by Believing” campaign at Utah State University marks the latest of a yearslong effort to improve how the school responds to sexual violence and harassment on campus. The university reaffirmed its commitment to that initiative on April 7, when it set up booths on campus (and off, at the nearby Latter-day Saint Institute) to allow members of the campus community to take a pledge on Start By Believing Day. The booths were also on hand at USU Eastern’s campuses in Price and Blanding the same day. Now, USU’s actions on this front are getting noticed nationally. End Violence Against Women International will recognize USU, along with five other organizations across the country, for participating in Start By Believing in a virtual event on April 29.

Lawrence County Crisis Shelter advocates decorate Ellwood City for SAAM

Ellwood City Ledger ELLWOOD CITY  Though April 1 is a dedicated day for tricksters, pranksters and fools, it also marks the start of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) and borough officials want residents to know that violence is no joke.  Leaders of the Lawrence County Crisis Shelter partnered with Ellwood City officials to raise awareness for the prevalence and prevention of sexual assault by putting up teal bows and yard signs on Lawrence Avenue Tuesday.  I feel like we always hit New Castle with outreach and awareness and we wanted to start getting into more boroughs, just so more people know that we re here and that we re a support if they re struggling with domestic violence or sexual assault, said Rachel Pearce, an advocate and prevention education specialist at Lawrence County Crisis Shelter.
