Two juveniles arrested after leading law enforcement on 103-mile chase

The suspect vehicle was ultimately rammed off the roadway by a NDHP squad car, which  ended the chase. A juvenile male driver and juvenile male passenger were taken into custody without further incident. The pursuit covered 103 miles on I-29. There were no injuries to the suspects or law enforcement.

GFSO gets 19,965 calls for service in 2020

By Pat Sweeney May 5, 2021 5:25 PM The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office had 19,965 calls for service in 2020 – the highest figure in the last five years and a jump of 790 from 2019. The 2020 calls included 5,030 related to civil papers, 4,459 traffic stops and 3,513 location checks. According to the GFSO’s 2020 statistics, 2,641 citations were issued last year, led by 1,063 for speeding. There were 401 total arrests, including 58 for DUI. Deputies served 1,706 warrants. The Sheriff’s Office responded to one homicide last year – the first in rural Grand Forks County since 2013. Eighty-two accident reports were filed for property damage exceeding $,4000 or any injury. There were 24 instances of false pretense or swindle crimes, up 19 from 2019. Officials say that was due to an increase in scam phone calls.

No one was injured in the blaze, which was fanned by strong winds, and also burned several outbuildings. The fire burned a small amount of grassland east of the residence, which was just north of the railroad tracks that run by the housing development.

Multiple agencies fight fire near Emerado

By Pat Sweeney Multiple agencies responded to a fire near Emerado (ND) this (Wed) afternoon. Grand Forks County Sheriff Andy Schneider tells KNOX the fire is about three miles east of Emerado…adding that some homes and vehicles caught fire. “We’re not aware of how it actually started,” Schneider said. “For sure, one home was a total loss.” The Grand Forks County Sheriff’s Office said fire crews from Emerado, Manvel,  Thompson and the Grand Forks Air Force Base were at the scene. The S-O received word of the fire shortly after 3 PM. Sheriff’s deputies were assisting. Smoke from the fire could be seen 20-to-25 miles away.
