Ondo State Government has suspended both the National Union of Road transport workers, NURTW, and the Road Transport Employers’ Association of Nigeria, RTEAN in the state.
The Senior Special Assistant to the governor on special duties and strategy, Dr Doyin Odebowale, said that the suspension was with immediate effect.
Odebowale attributed the suspension to recent leadership crisis within the two unions
He directed the leadership of both unions to vacate motor parks across the eighteen local government areas of the state and to stop collecting dues from taxi drivers and other motorists across the state.
Odebowale also directed taxi drivers to revert to the old price of N50 per drop across the state.

Scores were injured on Thursday when members of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria and the National Union of Road Transport Workers clashed in the Obalende area of Lagos State.
PUNCH Metro gathered that passersby, residents and business owners operating in the area fled for safety as the groups exchanged gunfire around 7am.
The hoodlums reportedly used different weapons, including guns, which created tension in the area.
A resident, Afeez Ilesanmi, said the fight was over the Obalende motor park.

COVID-19: Gov Oyetola appeals to residents to adhere to protocols

Gov. Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has advised residents of the state to always adhere strictly to COVID-19 guidelines to contain its spread.
Oyetola gave the advice during a COVID-19 sensitisation programme held at motor parks and markets in Iwo town, Osun, on Sunday.
He said that non-compliance with the prescribed COVID-19 protocols would make the disease spread faster.
Gov. Oyetola was represented by his Special Adviser on Civic Engagement, Tunbosun Oyintiloye.
The governor urged residents to take responsibility in the containment of COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging the entire world.
FRSC
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Thursday assured commuters and transporters that it would sustain the current free flow of traffic along the Ogun axis of the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.
The Ogun Sector Commander of the corps, Mr Ahmed Umar, gave the assurance in Abeokuta in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Umar, who said there had been substantial and noticeable improvement in the traffic situation along the Ogun corridor of the expressway, pledged that the FRSC would sustain this.
He attributed the development to the recently inaugurated “Operation Zero Road Crashes” across the country by the corps.
