The legislation that the House Financial Services Committee will consider this week to meet its reconciliation instructions under the House budget resolution includes critical housing assistance for millions of people who are struggling to pay their rent and avoid eviction, as well as badly needed resources to help communities address homelessness during the pandemic. The committee should quickly approve these measures, and the full House and Senate should enact them as part of the broader COVID-19 relief package that Congress will consider in coming weeks. Congress should act quickly to approve the bill’s additional renter relief and resources to enable communities to address homelessness while mitigating the spread of COVID-19. Some 15 million adults 1 in 5 adult renters report that they are not caught up on their rent payments, according to the latest Census Pulse survey.

JT Klein Co. has received a $29.3 million financing package from KeyBank for the construction of Limestone Ridge Apartments, a 116-unit affordable housing project in Fitchburg, Wis. KeyBank Community Development Lending and Investment provided the borrower with a $16 million construction loan, while KeyBank’s Commercial Mortgage Group secured a $13.3 million, fixed-rate forward tax-exempt loan through Freddie Mac.
Limestone Ridge will take shape on a 3.8-acre parcel at 6270 Limestone Lane. Upon completion, the four-story building designed by JLA Architects will house one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, with all units restricted to households earning between 50 and 80 percent of the area’s median income. Amenities will include a fitness center and playground.
Several opportunities for needed funding were open to discussion by Refugio County officials this month.
Spending for county projects was broached during a special meeting of commissioners court on Jan. 12, beginning with a discussion on how to best use funds on a potential RESTORE Act grant. Santos-McBain representative Hailey Satterwhite was on-hand to update commissioners on the grant and several potential uses.
Satterwhite stated that she has had ongoing talks with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) on grant reviews, most recently following up with TCEQ on Dec. 9, 2020. When received from the state, grant money will be used on the Austwell/Hynes Bay Dock Pier and Fish Pier project, as well as the Austwell City Park and Woodsboro Veterans Park projects.
State College Borough has been awarded more than $1 million in funding through the Commonwealth for its two nonprofit partners to acquire and renovate townhouses on Old Boalsburg Road for use as affordable rental units.
“All Pennsylvanians deserve access to affordable, safe, and livable spaces in their communities,” Gov. Tom Wolf said in a statement on Thursday. “This investment will support State College’s efforts to ensure that residents have affordable housing options in close proximity to the borough’s commercial corridors, downtown and Penn State University for work, school and shopping needs.”
The funds which come from the Department of Community and Economic Development’s HOME Investment Partnerships Program include $945,000 to purchase and rehabilitate eight three-bedroom townhouses on one parcel at 803-817 Old Boalsburg Road.
