THE HAGUE: France’s European affairs minister warned Britain not to play games with special post-Brexit trading rules for Northern Ireland, as fears rise of a summer of violence in the province.
Clement Beaune urged London to be “responsible” over the so-called “protocol” for Northern Ireland, which kept it in the EU single market and customs union despite the UK’s departure from the bloc.
“We cannot accept that there is political game with such a sensitive issue,” Beaune said in an interview with a small group of media including AFP in The Hague on Saturday after talks with the Dutch foreign minister.

First Minister Arlene Foster has urged the public to enjoy their new freedoms, but to be sensible.
Arlene Foster was speaking as she visited the Strand Arts Centre in east Belfast along with Deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill.
Indoor hospitality and indoor visitor and cultural attractions were able to reopen from today, and people could meet inside private homes again, limited to six people from no more than two households.
Foster questions existence of no-confidence letter

Outgoing First Minister Arlene Foster has said she is beginning to wonder if the DUP s so-called letter of no-confidence in her exists.
Mrs Foster said she still had not seen the letter which initiated the internal process that resulted in her resignation as leader.
Mrs Foster is due to step down as DUP leader on Friday and first minister at the end of June.
She said she had still not spoken to her successor, Edwin Poots.
