Man critically injured in shooting at Jacksonville s Gold Rush Inn

A man is in critical condition after a Sunday night shooting at the Gold Rush Inn at 10885 Harts Road, the Jacksonville Sheriff s Office said. This is the second shooting in less than a month on that stretch of Harts Road, the site of a community protest on Nov. 22 demanding the city shut the motel down after a string of homicides, shootings and other incidents there and nearby this year. City Councilman Reggie Gaffney said he learned Sunday s victim is 20, after speaking to police officials at the scene Sunday night. He said he gets daily complaints from residents about problems around that motel and other crimes along that stretch of Harts Road, just south of multiple communities in his district. He s working with the state Department of Business and Professional Regulation and Sheriff s Office, and said he plans to meet with city officials soon to find a way to get the Gold Rush Inn declared a health and safety nuisance.
