Free financial literacy available to area students

By Daily Telegram staff DEFIANCE, Ohio Premier Bank is partnering with a national program to offer area students financial literacy education. The bank chain, formerly First Federal Bank of the Midwest, announced in a news release this week it is working with Banzai, a financial literacy program, to bring free finance education to students. The online program is the largest of its kind, servicing more than 60,000 teachers nationwide, according to a news release. Premier Bank will work with schools to teach the personal finance program. Students will work through real-life scenarios as they learn to pay bills and balance a budget. They ll also get a taste of unexpected expenses like parking tickets, interest charges and overdraft fees. Students will be exposed to other financial concepts like auto loans, bank statements, entertainment costs and savings.

(KPLC) -A funding campaign has been announced called “Keep Saint Louis Downtown” and it’s being administered by Project Build a Future, a local non-profit that helps build houses for those in need. Former Lake Charles Mayor and State Senator Willie Mount is the co-chair of “Keep Saint Louis Downtown.” It’s an effort to raise enough money to allow the Diocese of Lake Charles to rebuild the high school on Bank Street, rather than move it east to Morganfield off Corbina Road.
