The final report regarding the Oct. 4 Jasper County CWS/CROP Walk in Newton, raising funds to combat hunger, has been received from the Church World Service offices in Raleigh, N.C., according to Barry Hurto, Jasper County chairman for the event.
Associate Community Engagement Specialist Renee Overton said a total of $2,371 was pledged and collected by eight Jasper County churches: First United Methodist Church, St. Luke United Methodist Church, St. Stephenâs Episcopal Church, Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and Congregational United Church of Christ, all of Newton; First Reformed Church of Prairie City; and the United Methodist Church and Howard Street Christian Church, both of Colfax.

Alfred “Al” Te Slaa age 85, of Rock Rapids, died Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at Avera Mc Kennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, from the COVID-19 virus.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 Saturday, December 12, 2020, at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Haggar, officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery at Rock Rapids, IA.
Visitation without the family present will be Friday, December 11 th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids.
