Community Bulletin Board: Criterion Sentinel (for April 21) The Metuchen Arts Council is joining with the Metuchen Human Relations Commission to schedule virtual Community Conversations around the issues highlighted in 2021 Windows of Understanding Public Art Project. The third in the series will take place at 7:30 p.m. April 21 on the topic of climate change. Artists Lauren Curtis, Maja Opacic and Mickey Waring were commissioned by the Metuchen Arts Council to create art that illuminates the mission of the Edison Greenways Group. Walter Stochel, vice president of the group, will participate in the discussion about their mission and their work to enhance the quality of life in our community.

Apr 14, 2021 8:40 AM Thomas J. Van Kley, 79, of Zeeland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, April 13, 2021, after a long battle with cancer. Tom is survived by his wife, Rosalie (Rosie), his children: Brian Van Kley, Jennifer (Joshua) Wise, Matthew and Rhonda Van Kley; his step-children: Travis (Tonya) Barber, Michael Barber, Katherine (Eric) Voight, and Miranda (Joseph) Reddy; his sisters: Mardee Mott, Peggy (Larry) Busscher; mother-in-law Alaine Knoll, brother-in-law Michael (Rebecca) Knoll, 14 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and another on the way.  Tom also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents Laverne and Beatrice Van Kley, brother-in-law Phillip Mott and many aunts and uncles.

Community Bulletin Board: Criterion Sentinel (for April 14)   The Arts Institute of Middlesex County is presenting a multitude of arts and culture events throughout April, primarily centered around National Poetry Month. Highlights include:   April 14 at 4 p.m. – Explore a folk story told in poetic verse and in two languages through vivid prints in this reading of “The Snow and the Sun,” written and illustrated by Antonio Frasconi. After the reading, experiment with engraving to create multiple prints of your own. April 21 at 4 p.m. – Explore the real-life story of the Puerto Rican-American pediatrician and New Jersey-based poet William Carlos Williams as told through multimedia illustrations. Let the images and words inspire you to create your own poems and collages from a variety of your own found papers and other materials.
