FCHO is planning 38 new family homes for Cherry Ave in Alt
First Choice Homes Oldham housing association has kicked off 2021 by signing contracts with development partners to build 54 new homes in Alt and Royton.
The move means the social housing provider is another step closer to meeting its target of building 94 new homes for affordable rent in Oldham and surrounding areas in 2020/2021.
In Royton, Robwood Construction is building 16 one-bedroom apartments in the High Barn area close to the town centre.
The £3 million scheme is due to start this month and be completed by March 2022.

The winners of a photography competition aimed at challenging negative stereotypes of older people will have their work shown to thousands of people from this week.
Six striking images that celebrate the diversity of older people’s lives and their contributions to society will be shown on digital billboards in each of Greater Manchester’s 10 boroughs from today (Monday).
Twelve winning entries in the Old Frame New Picture competition will also feature on a set of postcards and a total of 41 shortlisted images will be displayed in an online exhibition.

New FCHO Chief Executive Donna Cezair
First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) has announced the appointment of Donna Cezair as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Following a rigorous recruitment process which included both staff and customer panels, FCHO’s Board has now formally appointed Ms Cezair.
She will start in mid-January and take over from current interim CEO, Keith Wrate.
Ged Lucas, Chair of FCHO’s Board, said: “I am delighted to announce that Donna is joining us at FCHO. We had 38 people interested in the role, which we whittled down to five great candidates who went through the recruitment process, but her previous track record, experience in housing and strategic vision really impressed us.

200 gift bags ready for delivery
Oldham College have teamed up with Willmott Dixon to make Christmas extra-special for 200 local young people who have been adversely affected by COVID-19.
A joint campaign has seen several thousands of pounds’ worth of items donated or funded in just a matter of days and has produced a huge hoard of morale-boosting goodies.
Oldham College and Willmott Dixon worked with Mahdlo Youth Zone and First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) to identify local young people who are NEET – not in education, employment or training – and who have been hit hard by recent events.
Thirteen families have got the keys to their new homes at the Suthers Court development in Werneth.
The twelve 3-bedroom and one 4-bedroom family homes, which are all for affordable rent, are the first of the social landlord’s new properties to be completed at the development by house builder, Keepmoat Homes.
Work started on site in November 2019 and forms part of the wider regeneration of the area.
Over the next five months, First Choice Homes Oldham (FCHO) will be taking handover of another 32 two, three and four bedroom properties at the development located near Edward Street, north Werneth. These will enable the housing association to provide a total of 45 much needed homes to local people.
