Prof. Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe distinguished himself as a scholar and university administrator. A professor of Systems Engineering, he emerged the overall best graduating student at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Mathematics (First Class Division). He was employed as a Graduate Assistant in the university in 1972 and by dint of hard work rose to become the acting Vice Chancellor of the institution (September 2000 – April 2002) and substantive vice chancellor (May 2002 – April 2007). His impressive performance on the job made the Federal Government to appoint him as the pioneer vice-chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State (AE-FUNAI) in 2011, where he deployed his vast experience to place the institution on strong footing until he retired on February 25, 2016. Crawford University mourns Pro-Chancellor, Ibidapo-Obe
The vice-chancellor described the late professor emeritus as a philanthropist and warm-hearted man who had contributed immensely to the growth of Crawford University.

The Crawford University, Igbesa, Ogun State, on Wednesday described the death of its third Pro-Chancellor and member of the Board of Trustees, Oyewusi Ibidapo-Obe as a rude shock.
Mr Ibidapo-Obe, a professor of Systems Engineering, was appointed Pro-Chancellor of the 15-year-old faith-based university owned by the Apostolic Faith Mission, West and Central Africa (WECA) on August 23, 2018.
The Vice-Chancellor, Crawford University, Reuben Kolo, in a statement, said the institution had been thrown into deep mourning with the news of the death of the 71-year-old ebullient academic.

The scholar passed away Sunday afternoon.
The management of UNILAG has confirmed his death.
Olayinka Balogun, Registrar and Secretary to the Governing Council, prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul.
“With heavy heart, and submission to the will of God, I write to inform Council members of the transition to glory of Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, First Technical University, Ibadan which occurred today 03/01/2021”, he noted.
Ibidapo-Obe was born on July 5, 1949 in Ile Ife, Osun State.
He attended Lagos Street African Church Primary School, Ebute-Metta (1955 – 1961); Obokun High School/Ilesa Grammar School (1962 – 1966); and later Igbobi College, Yaba, (1966–1968).
