First Friday Art Walks are a community event celebrating creativity and art. For months the event has featured online, virtual events to keep guests safe through the COVID-19 pandemic. Organizers have now decided to bring back in-person events for the May First Friday Art Walk this week on Friday, May 7.Â
All are welcome to the First Friday Art Walk. Guests are asked to maintain six-foot distance between other guests and face coverings are required for indoor events.Â
âWe are excited and a little nervous about getting back to in person events,â said Katie Marshall, Executive Director of the MacRostie Art Center. âOur gallery capacity is still limited to 50% so weâll have to be mindful of attendance numbers, but Iâm really looking forward to the energy that comes from having people viewing the art and connecting with the artists in person.â

We were happy to read recently that a new day may soon be dawning as far as Arts in the Sunset is concerned despite what could have been local treasure s demise several years ago.
The result is a renewed effort to make sure the cultural enterprise maintains a noticeable profile within the city, providing community inspiration through art.
For those who may not remember, the Arts in the Sunset seemed to be headed toward a sunset of a quite different kind when tenants were vacated in 2019 as the Crouch Foundation worked to obtain tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service and become a nonprofit organization.
On the wall above the exit of the Amarillo Art Institute, which is located in the Arts in the Sunset, the following words are in bold: “We inspire, educate and enrich lives through art.
The status of the Arts in the Sunset, which previously housed studio spaces for numerous artists and hosted monthly art walks and exhibitions, has been in limbo since the tenants were vacated in 2019 to help the Crouch Foundation obtain tax-exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service and become a nonprofit organization.
But with construction and renovations currently occurring at the space, officials with the Amarillo Art Institute are hopeful that the Arts in the Sunset will once again be able to inspire, educate and enrich lives through art on a larger scale.
