Even with an extra £16.4 billion announced in the Integrated Review spread over the next four years, defence spending will be nowhere near the 3 per cent of GDP recommended by the Defence Committee.
In 1980, I first examined a Strategic Defence Review during academic research. Commissioned by the Chiefs of Staff Committee, a year after the war in Europe ended, the Review of Defence Problems was conducted by a specially created COS Future Planning Section and completed at the end of March 1947. Like the succession of modern documents – with increasingly cumbersome titles – published periodically since 1998, the FPS report was substantial: over 100 pages of text supported by 16 annexes, three maps and an index. Yet, there was one unique feature. The 1947 Review was so highly classified that, more than 30 years later, it was still not freely available.

CJCSC meets top Turkish security, defence officials
ISPR says both sides deliberated upon bilateral cooperation including security and counter-terrorism

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Nadeem Raza met with top Turkish security and defence officials, said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in a statement on Thursday.
On an official visit to Turkey, the chairman JCSC called on Minister of National Defence General (retd) Hulusi Akar at Ankara and also held separate meetings with General Yasar Guler, Commander Turkish Armed Forces and chiefs of the tri-services.
The chairman JCSC also visited Turkish Aerospace Industries.
According to the ISPR, both the sides deliberated upon various areas of interest, bilateral cooperation including security, counter-terrorism and prevailing regional environment, particularly with reference to Afghanistan during the meetings.

China invests $25.4 billion in CPEC, says Nong Rong

“China has directly invested over $25 billion in CPEC,” Nong Rong, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan said during the event.
He said that the bilateral relationship was being further cemented through mutual support and high level consultations and visits. He said China has so far invested $ 25.4 billion in CPEC since its inception, creating 75,000 jobs for Pakistanis and he added, ‘no Pakistani worker was laid off during the pandemic from any CPEC project’.
