Four officers of the Defence Forces have begun an incredible endurance challenge to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland.
Starting at 4am this morning, Michael Murphy and three other officers are running four miles every four hours for a duration of 48 hours in the Kilkenny City area. This will accumulate to a distance of 48miles (77.25km) - almost two marathons.
The four runners are Michael Murphy (Thurles), Ben Leydon (Purcellsinch), Joe Gunne (Clonmel) and Jay Leahy (Glendine Heights). The challenge is know as the 4X4X48 David Goggins challenge and is completed by many all over the world on an annual basis.

Social robots will complement the work of carers and solve a skills shortage at a time when it is becoming increasingly difficult to get people into care jobs,” say Drs Perry Share and John Pender, joint coordinators of a project called PRoSPEro (the Pedagogy of Robotics in the Social Professions in Europe), who spoke at an online workshop organised by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.
This project is currently developing training programmes for care professionals in the use of social robots, bringing practitioners and policy makers together and sharing international knowledge about the current state and future use of robots.

As builders, Doohamlet Construction, moved onto the site, work got under way in conjunction with Eddie Phelan of VCL consultants and Conor Hogan, quantity surveyor.
Branch chairman, Noel Heeney, said : This, without doubt, is a dream come true for us. We are just so happy to finally get to this point. The aim now, Covid permitting, is to get the job done as quickly as possible and to get our clients into the brand new premises, he said.
Mr Heeney said there were times when the state of-the- art project had often seemed to be no more than a pipe-dream.
