Edge data centre provider Leading Edge Data Centres has signed a deal with network provider Megaport to enable direct connectivity to public cloud providers.
Leading Edge is now able to offer connectivity from its Newcastle data centre to public cloud providers including Microsoft, AWS and IBM, through Megaport s marketplace.
The connections are enabled through Megaport’s on-demand Software-Defined Network (SDN). Leading Edge said customers could combine their private cloud requirements with a direct on-ramp service to leading public clouds.
Megaport’s public cloud provider ecosystem is home to more than 350 service providers including Alibaba, AWS, Google Cloud, IBM Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Nutanix, Oracle Cloud, Salesforce, Rackspace and SAP.

Data centre network provider Leading Edge Data Centres has struck a deal with network-as-a-service (NaaS) provider Megaport to provide direct connectivity from its upcoming Newcastle data centre.
Due to open in two weeks, the Newcastle data centre is set to utilise Megaport’s software-defined network to combine private cloud requirements with a direct on-ramp service to public clouds, offering its services on a pay-as-you-go basis.

Newcastle, 20 January 2021 – Leading Edge Data Centres, Australia’s first dedicated edge data centre network provider, today announced it will be offering direct connectivity from its Newcastle Data Centre to leading public cloud providers via Megaport, a global leading Network as a Service (“NaaS”) provider.
By utilising Megaport’s on-demand Software-Defined Network (SDN), Leading Edge Data Centre customers can combine their private cloud requirements with a direct on-ramp service to leading public clouds to meet their specific business needs. As a Megaport-enabled location, Leading Edge Data Centres will be able to offer its Newcastle customers:

Leading Edge Data Centres’ (LEDC) stated mission is to provide businesses and communities in regional towns and cities with access to a fast, reliable and cost-effective network, achieved through a network of data centres delivering internet and direct cloud connectivity.
Leading Edge Data Centre’s first data centre is set to open in Newcastle in February 2021, with 10 more in NSW to follow. The second phase of the rollout will have 16 data centres deployed across Victoria and Queensland in 2022.
