Celebrating Lent, Flowing Forth United Methodist Church in Aurora launched three study groups Feb. 21 exploring Soul Reset, a book by the Rev. Junius B. Dotson. The late UMC general secretary of discipleship ministries died Feb. 24 of pancreatic cancer.
The Aurora studies opened Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 23-24, on Zoom. Ron DeBaun of Batavia, Flowing Forth lay leader, and the Rev. Derek Rogers, Flowing Forth pastor, are study leaders.

Ash Wednesday, which falls on Feb. 17, is the official beginning of the season of Lent. Typically, Christians gather on this day in a service of penitence and reflection during which they impose ashes on each other s foreheads in the shape of the cross.

The Rev. Derek Rogers of North Aurora, pastor at Flowing Forth United Methodist Church in Aurora, continues his Conversations on Tough Questions virtual sermon series on Sunday, Jan. 24, with Why Does God Seem Distant Sometimes?
Rev. Rogers said he will be joined Sunday by Rev. Nathan Arledge, pastor of missions and community engagement at Myers Park UMC in Charlotte, N.C.
The public is invited to view recorded Sunday worship services on the church website, flowingforthumc.org. Services are posted on Saturday night.
On Jan. 31, the Rev. Luis Reyes, lead pastor of Lombard First UMC, will lead a sermon asking Do People Who Don t Believe In God Still Go to Heaven? with Rev. Rogers.

On Monday, Dec. 21, community organizations, faith communities, nonprofits and neighborhoods are invited to pick a location, light candles and stand together in unity and silence for 30 minutes during Light Up the Night: Candlelight and Community from 6 to 6:30 p.m.
The Rev. John Bell, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church in Aurora, said, We are not planning a religious event. We want to bring people together safely to show our unity as a community. We picked the longest night of the year to remind people that we are here for each other, no matter what.
