Former Major League Baseball star Alex Rodriguez and tech mogul Marc Lore are close to completing a $1.5 billion deal to buy the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves, multiple US media outlets reported Thursday.
The Minneapolis Star Tribune reported that Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor, 80, has an agreement on the sale of the NBA team and the WNBA’s Lynx, although neither party has publicly announced an agreement.
The Star Tribune, citing an unnamed source, reported that Rodriguez and Lore are 50-50 partners in the deal, which would have to be approved by the NBA’s Board of Governors.
Taylor has said that any deal to sell the team would include a commitment to keep the club in Minnesota.

“Glen Taylor has reached an agreement with Marc Lore & Alex Rodriguez regarding the sale and future ownership of the Wolves & Lynx,” the Timberwolves said in a statement Friday. “The transaction will close following league approval beginning the transition of ownership and a new chapter.”
Rodriguez hit 696 home runs over 22 major league seasons with the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, and Texas Rangers. Rodriguez was suspended for the entire 2014 season for violating the MLB’s drug policy and retired after the 2016 season.

Former Major League Baseball star Alex Rodriguez and billionaire Marc Lore have yet to seal a deal to buy the Minnesota Timberwolves following a 30-day exclusive negotiating window, according to ESPN.
The pair reportedly continue to negotiate with current owner Glen Taylor.
Rodriguez and Lore were granted a 30-day exclusive negotiating window on April 10 and have spent time meeting with team personnel and touring the facilities during that time.
The Athletic reported an agreement was reached on a $1.5 billion price and that the team would remain in Minneapolis a requirement from Taylor, who has owned the team for almost 30 years.

Former Major League Baseball player and manager Bobby Valentine will take a swing at politics, saying he s running for mayor of Stamford, Connecticut.
Valentine said he will run as an independent candidate.
The 70-year-old is a Stamford native and was a three-sport high school star in the city before going pro.
Valentine was drafted in 1968 by the Los Angeles Dodgers and played in the Major Leagues from 1969 to 1979. He was manager of the Texas Rangers in 1985 and then the New York Mets and Boston Red Sox.
Valentine owns a sports bar in Stamford and serves as the athletic director at Sacred Heart University, which is the licensee of WSHU Public Radio.
