Still, while the purpose of the helpline is to get those who perpetrate abuse to stop, the safety and needs of domestic abuse survivors are still paramount to the effort. Consequently, those on the hotline are trained to speak as if a domestic abuse survivor is also listening. “Anything you say you want them to be OK with it,” said Monica Moran, manager of the domestic violence prevention projects at the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission (PVPC).

New Annual Award Will Honor Late Regional Planner Tim Brennan

Listen to the interview with Rick Sullivan.    A new award has been created in memory of Tim Brennan, who led the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission for decades.    The “Tim Brennan Exemplar Award” will go to a Pioneer Valley organization that serves the community while adapting to changing economic and cultural landscapes.     Brennan was the executive director of the regional planning agency from 1980 until his retirement in 2019.  He died in March 2020.      Unable to publicly laud his accomplishments at the time of his death because of COVID-19, his friends and colleagues decided to create the award in his honor.     The award is co-sponsored by the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission and the Economic Development Council of Western Massachusetts.

Study Sees Big Financial Benefits For CT and MA From Improved Passenger Rail Lines

3:16 A report released this week by two regional planning agencies makes a business case for proposed passenger rail improvements in Massachusetts and Connecticut. An analysis projects that by making upgrades to the Hartford Line and building east-west rail in Massachusetts, the metro Hartford-Springfield area would gain 20,000-40,000 professional jobs over 30 years with a corresponding growth in economic output of $47 billion-$84 billion. Even at the highest estimated cost for the rail projects $9 billion – it would be a 10 -1 return on investment, said Kim Robinson, executive director of the Pioneer Valley Planning Commission. It is clear the time to re-establish robust passenger rail is now, Robinson said.
