In the wake of the Bombay High Court’s stay on the Mumbai Metro III car shed project, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked officials to explore whether alternative locations are available for its relocation.
Sources said that one of the options being examined is a state-owned land parcel in the Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai, which has been earmarked for the Centre’s flagship Mumbai-Ahmedabad high speed corridor project, popularly known as the bullet train project.

Days after the Bombay High Court ordered a stay on construction of integrated Metro car shed in Kanjurmarg, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra is reportedly looking alternative sites.
According to senior government officials, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to explore alternative sites for Metro car shed, as the State is adamant on not constructing it at Aarey forest as it will cause environmental damage.

In a jolt to the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday granted an interim stay on the Collector s order transferring 102 acres of saltpan lands at Kanjurmarg for constructing the Mumbai metro car shed.
A division bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni also ordered the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to maintain status quo on the land till the Centre and other parties claiming title rights on the disputed land are heard.
