Mumbai, March 17 : In a massive fallout of the SUV case, the Maharashtra government on Wednesday shunted out Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and replaced him with current Director General of Police Hemant Nagrale, Home Minister Anil Deshmukh announced.
Senior IPS officer Rajnish Sheth has been entrusted additional responsibility as the DGP, while Singh will be posted as DGP, Home Guards.
Shortly after taking over, Nagrale said it would be inappropriate to comment on the under investigations cases but assured that he would make all efforts to improve the image of the Mumbai Police.

Mumbai: Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh met Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray against the backdrop of the arrest of city police officer Sachin Waze by the NIA over its probe into the recovery of an explosives-laden SUV near industrialist Mukesh Ambani s house.
Singh met Thackeray at the latter s official residence Varsha here on Tuesday night, sources said.
Waze, arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on March 13, was attached to the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) of city police s crime branch till recently.

With the NIA zeroing on controversial Mumbai cop Sachin Vaze (now suspended) and the opposition BJP on Wednesday alluding “betting and extortion links between him and important persons in the government”, trouble is mounting for the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Aghadi in Maharashtra.
Under flak over “mishandling” of the bomb scare outside billionaire Mukesh Ambani’s residence, the Maharashtra government today replaced Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh with senior IPS officer Hemant Nagrale.
“Big decision of the government. Shri Hemant Nagrale will be the new Mumbai Police Commissioner. Shri Rajnish Seth will have the additional charge of the post of Director General of Police, Maharashtra.”
