I m over 50 and can now get my Covid AstraZeneca vaccine in Australia What should I know? | Vaccines and immunisation

Does the AstraZeneca vaccine protect people over 50? When researchers pooled the results from four large trials – including about 8,600 vaccinated people and a similar number of unvaccinated persons – there were 81% fewer Covid-19 cases in vaccinated people than in unvaccinated ones. No one who got the vaccine was admitted to hospital due to Covid-19. While the studies haven’t been designed specifically to look at efficacy in distinct age groups yet, there is good evidence the AstraZeneca vaccine protects both the elderly and younger adults from Covid-19. In clinical trials, adults aged 18 to 55 and those older than 55 had similar immune responses. How about serious disease and death?

The research, led by the Murdoch Children s Research Institute (MCRI) and published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, found mental health should be evaluated as part of standard pediatric concussion assessment and management. MCRI researcher and Monash University PhD candidate Alice Gornall said despite many post-concussion and mental health symptoms overlapping, the relationship between delayed recovery and mental health had remained poorly understood until this literature review.

More sleep or more exercise: the best time trade-offs for children s health

E-Mail Credit: Unsplash More sleep could offset children s excess indulgence over the school holidays as new research from the University of South Australia shows that the same decline in body mass index may be achieved by either extra sleep or extra exercise. The striking new finding is part of a study that shows how children can achieve equivalent physical and mental health benefits by choosing different activity trade-offs across the 24-hour day. Conducted in partnership with the Murdoch Children s Research Institute, and supported by the National Heart Foundation of Australia, the team examined the optimal balance between children s physical activity, sleep, and sedentary time across the 24-hour day to better inform tailored lifestyle choices.
