The Panel for a Global Public Health Convention (GPHC) announces today the publication of a research study titled Global Public Health Convention for the 21st Century in the prestigious Lancet Public Health journal. The paper outlines 10 recommendations on how the world can better prevent and prepare for pandemics like COVID-19 by adopting a robust global public health convention or treaty.
The pioneering study was conducted by a research team at the University of Miami (UM), Department of Public Health Science under the leadership of Prof. José Szapocznik Ph.D. The team compiled the recommendations after gathering and analyzing input from 29 thought leaders in a diverse range of disciplines, including public health, public policy, medicine, diplomacy, and economics. The study received financial support from the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and was conducted in collaboration with the AHF Public Health Institute at the University of Miami.

Former BP chief executive John Browne has made a donation to a University of Cambridge college in the UK in honour of his late mother, who was a Hungarian survivor of the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp.
The £2 million ($2.78 million) gift to the Murray Edwards College in memory of his mother Paula will help the institution acquire a building to turn into the Paula Browne Building to house and educate students at the women-only college.

Lord Browne, the former BP boss, lived with his mother Paula for the last 20 years of her life now he has paid her the ultimate filial tribute by making a £2 million donation to a Cambridge college in her honour.
The generous gift, made by the John Browne Charitable Trust, is to Murray Edwards College for women, enabling it to acquire a building, to be named Paula Browne House, in which undergraduates will both live and be taught.
‘So many people knew my mother, but very few were aware of her story until after she died,’ Lord Browne tells me. ‘This donation is a small way to remember her, in support of an institution with a mission that meant a great deal to her.’
