Sioux Falls Community Blood Bank in critical need of A positive blood

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) Community Blood Bank calls for donors with A (positive) blood typing to consider donating blood and support a near-critical shortage with this blood type. With a continued surge in surgeries and traumas, the need for all blood types continues. “The type A (positive) is one of the most used blood types. With an average of 32% of the population having this blood type, we are using a large number of units on a daily basis,” says Ken Versteeg, Executive Director, Community Blood Bank. “We are at the cusp of going into a full critical shortage for A (pos). This shortage could force elective surgeries to be postponed for the short term. It is imperative that we keep our blood supply strong for all blood types.”
