GUWAHATI: The Assam government has received financial assistance of over Rs 262 crore from the Centre for management of COVID-19 pandemic and rolling out the vaccination drive, state Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Friday. Presenting the Vote on Account Budget for 2021-22 , Sarma said the government allocated an additional Rs 760 crore for prevention and management of the pandemic to the general budget grant of Rs 6,126 crore to the Health Department in the ongoing fiscal.
The Mayotte islands, the poorest corner of the EU, tucked between Madagascar and mainland coast of Mozambique in Southern Africa, has been the last spot in France to receive any vaccines.
ASHAs union seeks smartphones to upload survey details

A union of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) has written to Telangana Health Commissioner, complaining that they have been directed to feed survey reports online but not given smartphones or digital tablets to facilitate the process.
ASHAs conduct door-to-door survey to collect information on health status of the population such as blood pressure, sugar levels, pregnancy, etc. They played a key role during the COVID-19 pandemic too. Earlier, they used to log the details in notebooks. “Now, we have been asked to upload details online, but not provided phones to do so,” an ASHA said.

BELAGAVI: An expert committee has reported that the death of a 33-year-old Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) from Belagavi is unlikely to be due to taking the COVID-19 vaccine. The report says she was suffering from a headache frequently and was later diagnosed with cerebral aneurysm after an MRI scan.
The 33-year-old worker from Galataga village of Chikkodi taluk had taken the Covishield vaccine on January 22. After eight days, she complained of headache and vomiting. She was first admitted to the taluk hospital in Nippani, and then to Chikkodi hospital.

SRINAGAR: The joy of Gulam Rabani, a casual labourer in North Kashmir s Kupwara district, knew no bounds when he finally cuddled his baby girl who was born in an Army vehicle in adverse weather, officials said here on Tuesday.
The child was born on Monday when the mother was being shifted to a hospital for delivery in the Army vehicle, they said.
