Police in Indian-controlled Kashmir said Saturday that 21 people were arrested for disturbing public order by expressing solidarity with Palestinians and holding protests against Israelâs military offensive in Gaza.
Police said in a statement they were keeping a âclose watch on elements who are attempting to leverage the unfortunate situation in Palestine to disturb public peace and orderâ in Kashmir. The statement said police were âsensitive to public anguishâ but wouldnât allow those sentiments to âtrigger violence, lawlessness, and disorder.â
An artist was also arrested for painting a pro-Palestinian graffiti on a bridge in Srinagar showing a woman wearing a scarf made of a Palestinian flag and a tear tricking from her eye, with the words: “We Are Palestine"
