Ashrafi demands fresh electoral reforms National March 16, 2021 ISLAMABAD: Special Aide to Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi said on Monday that electoral reforms are need of time as the current electoral system is just a game of money which is weakening democracy. “We invite the opposition to carryout joint struggle to eradicate usury, corruption and extremism from the country,” he said while addressing a press conference here on Monday. Tahir Ashrafi said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman had been tricked once again in the Senate elections. “Following the defeat of Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidari in Senate elections, any explanation from his members and opposition parties has not been sought,” he said. He said the opposition is making baseless propaganda for face saving after the defeat in the political arena.

New interreligious aide to Imran Khan says minorities in Pakistan not second class citizens

23 February 2021 After an announcement in December 2020, the Pakistani government has renewed a commitment to protect minorities and promote religious tolerance with the appointment of a special aide to advise Prime Minister Imran Khan on interreligious matters. Acknowledging a need to restrain the abuse of “blasphemy” laws and protect all victims of false accusation, as well as Christians and other religious minorities from forced marriage to Muslims and forced conversions, the government has appointed Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Religious Harmony and Middle East. Ashrafi is a respected Muslim scholar and Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC).

Clerics urge govt to fully implement NAP National February 22, 2021 LAHORE: Clerics and representatives of different political organisations and religious schools of thought have called on the government to fully implement the National Action Plan (NAP) and ensure legislation on the draft of Paigham-e-Pakistan . While addressing Ulema-Mashaykh Convention, which held in Faisalabad here on Sunday under the aegis of Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC), clerics and representatives of different religious schools of thought stated that government had represented emotions of Muslim Ummah on the issue of Namoos-e-Risalat and on the belief in the finality of Prophethood (PBUH). Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi and Special Representative to Prime Minister on Religious Harmony presided over the Ulema-Mashaykh Convention.
