The first doses of the coronavirus vaccine were administered on the East End on Tuesday at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead.
The hospital received its first doses of the vaccine on Tuesday morning and promptly organized shots for members of its emergency department and other frontline staff.
About 50 staff members are expected to get their first vaccine shots on Tuesday, with the requisite follow-up shots to be administered in three weeks, as the Pfizer guidelines dictate.
Hospital staff and employees and residents of nursing homes are in the first cohort scheduled to get the vaccine under the state’s distribution guidelines.
