Suffolk County Begins Herculean Vaccine Outreach Campaign

Office of the Suffolk County Executive Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone unveiled an outreach campaign, #TakeYourShot, to encourage residents to get vaccinated for COVID-19 when their turn comes. Bellone said 75% of residents 850,000 people must be vaccinated to achieve herd immunity. He called it a “herculean” task. “We need you to take your shot so we can crush this virus once and for all,” Bellone said. Bellone spoke alongside community leaders and health officials at Suffolk County Community College. He says the college’s three campuses in Brentwood, Riverhead and Selden, will serve as vaccine distribution centers. “I understand the skepticism, I understand the history,” said Tracey Edwards, Long Island regional director for the NAACP. “But all of us collectively have been through a lot with this virus, and the only way that we will be able to rid ourselves of this virus is by taking the vaccine.”

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone has announced the launch of Suffolk BACKSTOP a new COVID-19 rental and small business assistance program for County residents and business owners facing hardships due to the ongoing pandemic. The new two part program – Bringing Assistance for COVID-19 and Kickstarting Support to Operating Professionals (BACKSTOP) will distribute nearly $600,000 in emergency rental assistance to residents and provide nearly 150 small businesses with grants up to $10,000. Applications for the rental assistance program and for the Small Business Assistance Grant Program will open on December 17. “We are now nine months in to this pandemic, and with cases surging once again we need to provide residents in need tangible assistance,” said Suffolk County Executive Bellone. “This new rent relief program coupled with financial aid to struggling small businesses will provide help to some of our most vulnerable residents.”

Suffolk Coronavirus Cases By Town: Overall Total Exceeds 76,000

(Shutterstock) SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY Confirmed coronavirus cases in Suffolk County hit 76,373 as of Wednesday, when the county last updated its numbers. According to Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, the total number reported now includes the number of positives indicated with antibody testing. He added that at times the county map is slow to update to the real-time numbers of reported cases. The map includes presumptive positive cases with a confirmed address. Presumptive positive cases without confirmed addresses are noted in township not known and not represented on the map. The map doesn t include cases pending from the NYS Department of Health.
