Serial burglar who taunted police with abusive Facebook posts jailed

A serial burglar who taunted police with abusive Facebook posts while he was on the run has been jailed for 11 years.  Levi Hilden, 36, posted a string of messages and pictures on Facebook boasting of his life on the run after Suffolk police announced they were hunting him. He repeatedly referred to one officer as Sgt P k and even posed half naked outside a police station showing off a tattoo of his name on his back. Hilden also posted videos and pictures of himself with drugs and tucking into restaurant meals and takeaways while bragging that police could not catch him.

Last weekend (Friday 22 Jan to Sun 24 Jan inclusive) 42 people were given Fixed Penalty Notices for breaching lockdown rules over the three day period, and 41 people received warnings. The previous weekend (Friday 15 Jan to Sun 17 Jan inclusive) 56 people were fined for breaching lockdown rules and 39 people received warnings.

Extra 51 police officers for Suffolk over next year

The additional recruits will be on top of an extra 54 officers hired over the last year – in the first of a three-phase £750m Operation Uplift campaign announced in September 2019.  Suffolk Constabulary s workforce of full time equivalent officers was 1,168 when the first phase of national recruitment began in March 2020 – compared to 1,246 in March 2010, when cuts to police resources began as part of government austerity measures, with numbers falling as low as 1,092 by March 2018.

Suffolk Police and Crime Commissioner Tim Passmore - Credit: Archant Suffolk taxpayers have until Thursday morning to have their say on the police and crime commissioner s latest proposed hike in annual household bills. Tim Passmore will go to the county s Police and Crime Panel on Friday to request approval for an increase to the constabulary s share of council tax in the forthcoming financial year. Members of the public have been asked for their opinions on the proposed increase, which equates to an extra £14.94 on annual bills for Band D properties, before 9am on Thursday. About two thirds of total funding currently comes directly from government grants, with the rest generated from the council tax precept.
