There has been plenty of change in the West this season, but new Galway manager Gerry Fahy knows he is taking charge of team within striking distance of TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship glory.
Rivals Mayo appointed former county player Michael Moyles as their manager last week; Sligo have another ex-county player and underage manager in charge in Anthony Brennan; and one of the most decorated Ladies footballers from the province, Diane O’Hora, has taken charge of Roscommon.
Galway were on the look-out for a new manager after Tim Rabbitt stepped aside following two years in charge of the team, but with one of his 2020 selectors stepping up, the pattern of appointing from within has continued in Galway.

A few extra weeks to recharge might be welcomed in some quarters, but extending the off-season is a form of torture for Armagh captain Kelly Mallon. Four weeks on from their season ending Ulster Final victory she is more than ready to tear into the 2021 season.
Claiming a first provincial title since 2014 in December’s win over Monaghan was a great way to sign off the year for Armagh, but their TG4 All-Ireland Senior Championship Semi-final loss to Dublin a fortnight earlier has left plenty to stew on and dissect.
GAA confirm inter-county and club dates and structures for new-look 2021 season

Leitrim teams will not be in action until the end of February under the new plan for the 2021 inter-county season unveiled on Monday afternoon by the GAA with the entire second half of the year devoted to club action only.
Under the new plan, County games will take place in the first part of the season with an uninterrupted main Club Championship Window from the weekend of July 24/25, to October 23/24, with the Provincial club competitions, up to All-Ireland Semi-Finals, taking place from October 16/17, on.
